I have a PC running Windows 95, which I use to access the internet. I recently built a new system with Windows 98 SE, and this machine has a new modem in it. I have networked them using two ethernet cards and can share files and printers. But although I have set up ICS (internet connection sharing) in Windows 98 SE, I cannot get it to work.
Do I need to disconnect the modem from the old PC and uninstall Dial-Up Networking on it so that it has no independent internet access at all, or must I install Windows 98 SE on it?

You don't need to be running Windows 98 SE on computers that wish to access the internet through an ICS host. The problem may be either that you have not logged on to the ICS host computer from the other computer using the network logon, or that the TCP/IP properties aren't set up correctly.
The following article from the Microsoft Knowledgebase at http://support.microsoft.com/support/ (Q238135 'How to Troubleshoot Internet Connection Sharing Problems' should be able to help).
An alternative to ICS (which doesn't require Windows 98 SE) is ProxyPlus, which you can get from www.proxyplus.cz.
